Mary Lou

Momaw and Popaw

Mary Lou was my maternal grandma – Momaw. Pansies, Spearmint (everywhere!) and Impatients always make me think of her cause they were in her front flower bed. She started everything (flowers and vegetables) from seed in her basement. Momaw sold what she grew. In her yard there is a pole that Popaw hung between two cedar trees where she displayed her hanging baskets.

She also made the best biscuits and gravy and could play the piano by ear.

She raised 5 wonderful children including my Moma.

One time she popped popcorn for all the grandkids. We dared her to take the lid off and let it pop. She did and we had the best time scrambling for fresh popped popcorn. She was an amazing seamstress. She loved to read and she loved to read to her grandkids.

I’ll be adding more to Momaw’s story.
